Can people test their homes
for lead themselves, or should they call a professional?
People can purchase a lead-testing kit & do it
themselves. Call the National Lead Information center, a hotline
maintained by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency at
1-800-424-5323.
What is an affected employee in terms of lockout/tagout
regulations?
An affected employee uses equipment that is being
serviced or maintained under lockout or tagout, or is working
nearby while service/maintenance is being performed. In other
words, the employee is being affected by the lockout/tagout
work, but is not actually performing the job.
Who needs to receive the
hepatitis B vaccination?
The bloodborne pathogens standard requires the hepatitis
B vaccination series be made available to all employees who have
occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens. All employees who
have an exposure incident must also receive post-exposure
evaluation and follow up, which may include the hepatitis
vaccine. The employer doesn't have to make the hepatitis
vaccination available to employees who are already immune
according to antibody tests, or who are prohibited from
receiving the vaccine for medical reasons.
What is OSHA doing about
workplace violence and why?
OSHA has developed final "guidelines for Preventing
Workplace Violence for Health Care & Social Service
Workers" and draft guidelines for night retail
establishments. The intent of the guidelines is to educate
employers on finding ways to provide a more secure work
environment. OSHA hopes that employers will voluntarily
implement violence protection programs.
